Indian Monsoon Climate and Malaria: Medical Meteorology
نویسنده
چکیده
India has among the highest rates of malaria mortality, inoculation and infection, human and socio-economicadministrative costs. India is a subcontinent having monsoon climate (most variable). Meteorology being all about atmospheric processes and dynamics envelopes much of the ecology and environment. This communication presents Indian sub-continental atypical monsoon meteorology, east coast’s geography, geomorphology of eosin plateaus (plateau environment in particular), orography (delta type sea with parabolic shore line) as having a nexus with the ever present human health hazard of malaria infection. There is not much scope for inter-disciplinary studies. Ongoing decadal works have been cited to indicate the historical etiology of the term ‘Medical Meteorology’ in clinical-cummet domains. The finding is that due to such all-pervading meteorology the nature of the nexus is planetary in scale and all enveloping. Malaria is part of ecology. It is aided and abetted by Mother Nature. Malaria is here to stay.

Advancing Indian Monsoon Rainfall Predictions
Despite great strides made in seasonal climate forecasting using dynamical models, skill in predicting the Indian monsoon is woefully poor. Our analysis of the reasons for failure exposes a flaw in the popular design of dynamical prediction systems. The approach of driving atmospheric models with a projected ocean surface temperature presupposes Indian monsoon variability to be a consequence so...
متن کاملThe Rôle of Meteorology in Malaria
In the April number of the Indian Journal of Mcdical Rcscarch, Lt.-Col. C. A. Gill, i.m.s., Chief Malaria Medical Officer of the Panjab, discusses the part played by varying meteorological conditions in the spread of malaria. The paper must be read in the original by all students of malaria, but for the sake of those who have not much time for reading a few of Col. Gill's conclusions ai*e given...
متن کاملThe meteorology of monsoons
Monsoon circulations are major features of the tropical atmosphere, which, primarily through the rainfall associated with them, are of profound importance to a large fraction of the world’s population. While there is no universally accepted definition of what constitutes a monsoon, there are some criteria that are widely accepted (see, e.g., the discussions in Ramage (1971), Webster (1987), and...
متن کاملIntercomparison of the climatological variations of Asian summer monsoon precipitation simulated by 10 GCMs
We assesses the overall performance of stateof-the-art atmospheric GCMs in simulating the climatological variations of summer monsoon rainfall over the Asian-Western Pacific region and the systematic errors that are common to a group of GCMs. The GCM data utilized are obtained from 10 GCM groups participated in the CLIVAR/Monsoon GCM Intercomparison Project. The model composite shows that the o...

INTRODUCTION Acute angle closure (AAC) without prompt treatment may lead to optic neuropathy. Environmental factor such as climate change may precipitate pupillary block, the possible mechanism of AAC. OBJECTIVE To determine the association of northeast monsoon and incidence of AAC in Malaysia. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on AAC patients admitted to two main te...
